NEW YORK -- Edgar Renteria, Manny Ramirez and the Boston Red Sox broke out of their slump with 27 hits and a satisfying rout.
Renteria hit a grand slam, Ramirez got four singles and Boston battered New York Yankees pitching Saturday for a 17-1 victory that snapped a four-game losing streak.
Trot Nixon homered and drove in five runs for the Red Sox, who backed unbeaten Matt Clement with their biggest offensive outburst of the year.
Johnny Damon also had four hits and scored three times, and John Olerud had three hits in his first major league game since last fall.
Carl Pavano (4-3) and Paul Quantrill were roughed up for the Yankees, who had their five-game winning streak snapped and lost for only the third time in 19 games. They had won nine consecutive games at home.
The 27 hits were the most for the Red Sox since they tied the club record of 28 on June 27, 2003, against Florida. Pavano started that game as well, for the Marlins.
All the offense made it tough on the scoreboard operator at Yankee Stadium -- the board went blank for a few moments in the eighth inning as the Red Sox piled on. Boston came within one hit of matching the Yankees' record for hits allowed.
The Red Sox had been held to three runs or fewer in three consecutive games for the first time since August 2003. But the Red Sox had set a season high for hits by the fifth inning behind Ramirez and Renteria, who finished with five RBIs.

TORONTO -- Kyle Lohse pitched seven strong innings, and Juan Castro and Shannon Stewart hit back-to-back homers to lead Minnesota.
Minnesota has won eight of 11 to move 10 games over .500 for the first time this season.
Castro narrowly missed a home run in the fifth inning after his ball hooked foul, but he hit David Bush's next pitch for his second homer in two days.
Stewart followed with a home run into Toronto's bullpen, the third time Minnesota has hit consecutive home runs this season. He has homered in three straight games.
Lohse (4-3) allowed just one run and six hits, while striking out three and walking none. He gave up just seven runs in his five starts in May, dropping his ERA from 6.65 to 4.22.
Twins starters have pitched at least six innings in 40 of 48 games this season.
Lohse was struck on the right thigh by a line drive in the first inning, but he stayed in the game. Joe Nathan allowed Aaron Hill's two-run double with one out in the ninth inning, but he struck out Russ Adams and got Gregg Zaun to foul out to third base for his 15th save in 17 chances.
The Blue Jays have lost two straight after sweeping Boston in a three-game series.
Bush (0-5), who hasn't won in 10 starts this season, allowed four runs -- two earned -- and six hits in just 4 2/3 innings.

White Sox/Rangers postponed
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The game between the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers was postponed by rain, pushing back Jon Garland's shot at becoming the first nine-game winner in the major leagues.
The game was called after a delay of 2 hours, 45 minutes. It won't be made up until the White Sox return to Texas on Aug. 29-31. The teams will play a single game today, when there is a 60 percent chance of more rain. The pitching matchups were not immediately announced.
Garland (8-1) was scheduled to face Chan Ho Park (4-1), who has already matched his win total from last season. Just before the game was rained out, Park came out in front of the dugout during a drizzle and threw a few tosses with a bullpen catcher.
Chicago has the best record in the major leagues at 33-16. The Rangers have won seven straight games, the longest active streak in the majors.
