TRUMBULL COUNTY Fledgling tourism board makes cleanup a priority

Volunteer effort also will play a role in the tourism office's operation.
WARREN -- Some tidying up needs to be done before Trumbull County opens up its new tourism office at 2931 Youngstown Road S.E.
County Commissioner Daniel Polivka, Warren Councilman Vincent Flask, D-5th, and Councilman Bob Dean, D-at large, have teamed up for a neighborhood cleanup project on Saturday.
The county's soon-to-be-opened Tourism and Information Center will be in the 5th Ward next to the Trumbull County Board of Elections, where volunteers will meet at 10 a.m.
Volunteer work
Volunteers will be working in the Eastland Avenue and Youngstown Road area to help beautify the neighborhood.
Lunch will be provided and donated by Freddie Frats Diner.
Polivka, a former city councilman, said this cleanup is an example of county and city governments working together.

New board
The county's three-member tourism board organized itself just a week ago, with Polivka as chairman.
A "Trumbull County Tourism and Information" sign will be erected at the office, formerly occupied by the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District. The county owns the building.
The tourism board also will make use of Department of Job and Family Services summer help at its tourism info center, and is looking to Youngstown State and Kent State universities for internship possibilities.
Commissioners also plan to have an "office of volunteerism" to assist with mailings and events, Polivka explained.
