Program provides seniors with free AC
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership is scheduling appointments for its Summer Crisis Program, where residents may be eligible for electric assistance or qualify for a free air conditioner. The program runs from June 1 through Aug. 31. If a family member has a breathing condition verified by a medical professional, eligible households may qualify for assistance toward their electric bill, an air conditioner or both. All income-eligible seniors (60 years of age or older) are eligible for electric assistance; however, they must have a prescription from their doctor to receive an air conditioner.
Applicants must report their household income for the past three months for all members 18 years of age or older. Call the automated system at (866) 223-1125 to schedule an appointment. Each applicant must bring his or her electric and gas bill, proof of income for the past 90 days, photo ID and Social Security cards for all household members 2 years of age and older .
