AROUND THE HORN \ Wednesday's other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Orioles 3, Mariners 1
BALTIMORE -- Rodrigo Lopez pitched eight innings of five-hit ball, and Rafael Palmeiro homered to lead Baltimore over Jamie Moyer and Seattle. Lopez (3-2) allowed one run, struck out two and walked none. B.J. Ryan worked the ninth for his 14th save, the second in two nights. Lopez outpitched Moyer (4-2), who retired 17 straight batters at one point. The left-hander yielded only five hits in eight innings but fell to 15-3 against his former team. Palmeiro's 556th career homer, a two-run shot, capped a three-run first inning for the Orioles. Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts missed his first game of the year with a bruised knee. The Orioles were also without catcher Javy Lopez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken bone in his right hand.
Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 1
TORONTO -- Ted Lilly and Toronto's bullpen combined on a four-hitter to hand Bronson Arroyo his first loss in 18 starts. Arroyo (4-1) had won nine consecutive decisions since the Chicago White Sox beat him last Aug. 15. The 28-year-old right-hander, making his 100th major league appearance, allowed five runs -- two earned -- and six hits in six innings. Russ Adams had two hits and scored two runs for the Blue Jays, who are 5-2 against Boston this season. Lilly (3-4) allowed one run in 62/3 innings, his longest outing this season.
Yankees 4, Tigers 2
NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter made a spectacular tumbling catch in the seventh inning to protect Chien-Ming Wang's lead, and Alex Rodriguez had a go-ahead RBI double for New York. With runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, Marcus Thames hit a fly into shallow center field. Running full speed with his back to the plate, Jeter banged into second baseman Robinson Cano, reached over his shorter teammate to make the catch, and fell to the ground with the ball. The Yankees won for the 14th time in 16 games and moved a season-high four games over .500 at 25-21. Just two of the wins have come against teams with records above .500 when the games were played. Wang (3-1) lasted 61/3 innings, allowing two runs and five hits. Mariano Rivera earned his 10th save. Mike Maroth (4-4) gave up four runs and eight hits in five-plus innings.
Devil Rays 14, Athletics 6
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Carl Crawford tripled and homered during a 10-run first inning, and Scott Kazmir won his second straight start for Tampa Bay. Oakland has lost four straight and 13-of-16. Joe Blanton (0-5) lasted just one-third of an inning, giving up eight runs -- seven earned -- on six hits and a walk.

Hank Blalock added a two-run homer and an RBI single for the Rangers. Astacio (2-5) won for the first time in six starts since April 19, limiting the Royals to two runs and four hits. He struck out six and walked one. Zack Greinke (0-6) allowed four runs and six hits over five innings.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Braves 3, Mets 0
ATLANTA -- Rookie Kyle Davies was impressive in his home debut and Atlanta shut out New York for the second straight night. Davies (2-0) pitched 51/3 innings, giving up five hits and one walk. Astros 5, Cubs 1
CHICAGO -- Brandon Backe outpitched Greg Maddux, and Morgan Ensberg's go-ahead homer helped Houston snap a seven-game losing streak. Ensberg's ninth homer and sixth in his last 16 games broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth, and the Astros sealed the long-awaited victory by scoring three runs in the eighth inning. Backe (4-3) gave up seven hits and a run in seven-plus innings. Maddux (2-3) allowed five runs and eight hits in 72/3 innings.
Reds 12, Nationals 3
CINCINNATI -- Ryan Freel had four hits, including his first homer since Sept. 5, and emergency starter Matt Belisle helped Cincinnati sweep Washington. Felipe Lopez hit a two-run homer and Austin Kearns drove in three runs as the Reds matched their season high for runs and completed their first sweep since the opening week of the season. Belisle (2-4), starting because Aaron Harang had flu-like symptoms, allowed two runs and five hits in a career-high six innings. Claudio Vargas (0-3) lasted just 12/3 innings, giving up three runs -- two earned -- three hits and three walks.
Brewers 11, Rockies 1
MILWAUKEE -- Gary Glover (3-3) won for the first time since April 29, giving up one unearned run and three hits in six innings as Milwaukee finished a three-game sweep. With Ben Sheets preparing to return to the rotation after more than a month on the disabled list and Wes Obermueller pitching well, Glover could wind up in the bullpen. Bill Hall had four RBIs for Milwaukee. Jamey Wright (2-5) gave up eight runs and eight hits in three-plus innings, including five runs and five extra-base hits in the first.
Phillies 8, Marlins 5
MIAMI -- Randy Wolf got a rare win against Florida, as Philadelphia stopped the Marlins' longest winning streak of the season at six games. Jimmy Rollins had four hits and Jim Thome had three in his first multihit game since April 12, also against the Marlins. Wolf (4-4) had been 2-12 against the Marlins, including a pair of losses in April. He allowed five runs and nine hits in 51/3 innings, winning his third straight decision after three consecutive losses. Ryan Madson struck out four in 22/3 hitless innings, and Billy Wagner finished for his 11th save in 13 chances, retiring Carlos Delgado on a game-ending flyout with two on. Al Leiter (2-5) gave up five runs, seven hits and two walks in 21/3 innings, the shortest outing since June 8, 2003, when he lasted two innings for the New York Mets in a 13-1 loss to Seattle. Philadelphia, which tied a season high with 17 hits, fell behind 2-0 in the first when Juan Encarnacion and Mike Lowell hit RBI singles. Todd Pratt hit a run-scoring single in the second inning, and the Phillies went ahead 5-2 in a four-run third.
