Suit alleges police officer was negligent

WARREN -- Brookfield Township faces a lawsuit in excess of $75,000 from a Masury couple who allege a township police officer was negligent in an accident.
John L. and Krista Hollobaugh of 1276 Bedford Road filed suit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday. Named as defendants are the township, its police department and officer Scott A. Thompson, township trustees and State Farm Insurance.
Hollobaugh states he was southbound on Bedford Road on Feb. 8 when Thompson negligently operated his vehicle, causing damage and injury. Hollobaugh said he's suffered pain, hospital expenses and loss of earnings. He said there was $20,000 damage to his 1990 GMC truck.
His wife says she's lost his companionship and consortion.
The couple seeks more than $25,000 apiece in compensatory damages and punitive damages in excess of $25,000 plus court costs.
Police Chief Dan Faustino said Thompson has been a township officer since 1995 and was responding to a domestic call that afternoon.
The officer was cited in the crash by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, but is challenging that citation in a case pending in Trumbull County Central District Court.
