Fitch softball team sweeps Boardman



BOARDMAN -- Jen Purnell had two doubles and picked up the win in relief as the Fitch High softball team defeated Boardman 8-7 in 10 innings in a Federal League game on Tuesday.
The Falcons (16-9, 7-7), who went 3-0 against the Spartans this season, finished tied with Boardman and Massillon Perry for third place in the league. They will meet league champion Uniontown Lake in a Division I regional semifinal today at 4:30 p.m. at the University of Akron.
Kara Warren had two hits and three RBIs for Fitch, which scored seven runs in the top of the seventh. Sam Kozbial and Kate Ferree also had two hits.
Ashley DiDomenico doubled for Boardman, which scored six runs in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Baseball
AUSTINTOWN -- Boardman's Kevin Sikora singled home the go-ahead run with two out in the sixth, then pitched the sixth and seventh innings to earn the save as the Spartans beat Fitch 8-7 in a Federal League baseball game.
Anthony Porter had two hits for the Spartans (17-13, 6-7), while Cameron Ciminero had three RBIs and Sikora had two.
John Mang homered and had three RBIs for the Falcons (16-8, 9-4).
