CAR SHOW Event cruises back to town



The show also will cater to motorcycle enthusiasts this year.

CANFIELD -- Dave and Ed's Steel Valley Nationals Car Show returns to the Canfield Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday.
This is the second year for the event, which this year will include motorcycles as well as cars and trucks.
The family-oriented show will include burnout contests for cars and motorcycles, model and Hot Wheel car contests, vintage car racing, music and many vendors.
There will also be Dyno Wars, in which owners hook their car engines up to a Dyno machine to measure horsepower.
Another event will be the Slow Poke Drags. Two cars compete against each other like a drag race, but each aims to be the last one to the line. However, competitors cannot brake.
There will also be drag racing in conjunction with the Steel Valley Nationals at Quaker City Raceway in Salem on Friday and Saturday nights.
Cruisin'
Kool Time Cruisers, a vintage car club, is sponsoring a pre-show cruise starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. The cruise will begin at Greenwood Market Motors on Market Street and end at Jolly Joe's on South Avenue. Proceeds will benefit the Kidney Foundation. In the event of rain, the cruise will be postponed.
Youngstown Rod and Custom will sponsor a cruise-in at A & amp;W restaurant in Boardman Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., and the Valley Cruzers are sponsoring a cruise-in from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Chili's in front of the Southern Park Mall.
The top 25 vehicles from 2004 will be parked on the island behind the fountain in the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, the island will feature the top 25 of 2005.
There will be many events for motorcycle enthusiasts, including seminars on riding in groups, insurance and proper apparel.
Vehicles can register for the show Thursday, or at the event.
The awards presentation will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the grandstands.
Entry fees are $30 for cars and trucks, $20 for motorcycles. The entry fee includes weekend admission for two people.
General admission for spectators is $5 per day, but children 11 and under will be admitted free. Gates will open at 8 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday for spectators.
