COLUMBUS -- Youngstown State University will receive $1 million in state funds for the Recreation and Wellness Center that is under construction, thanks to State Controlling Board action Monday.
The state funds are in addition to the $1.5 million awarded by the state to the project last year.
The state funds will go to help pay for the construction of a 67,000-square foot center as well as other improvements.
YSU officials are fundraising to pay for most of the approximately $14 million project.
The controlling board also released $442,431 to help finance the replacement of steam and condensation piping on campus.
In other business, the board:
U Released $25,000 to the Youngstown Business Incubator to deploy a voice-over Internet network for the benefit of its companies.
U Approved five lease renewals for state offices located in Mahoning County. The Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, the Ohio Industrial Commission, Rehabilitation and Corrections, Taxation, and the Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association (One-Stop Delivery System) all renewed their lease agreements with local commercial property owners for substantially the same rates in 2006 and 2007.
Made up of six lawmakers and a representative of the governor's office, the controlling board has the final say over some larger state spending projects.
