TURNPIKE KILLING Affidavit links man with wife of doctor

Officials say the wife rented an apartment for a 'person of interest' in the investigation.
STAFF AND WIRE REPORT
BEAVER, Pa. -- A man arrested on a probation violation during an investigation of a doctor's roadside slaying had been in a relationship with the victim's wife, a police document affidavit alleges.
Damian R. Bradford, 23, of Milne Drive, Monaca, Pa., was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police with the assistance of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Ohio authorities called him a "person of interest" in the Ohio Turnpike shooting of Dr. Gulam Moonda, 65, of Hermitage, but he has not been charged in the case.
Affidavit allegations
A police affidavit alleges that Bradford had been involved with the victim's wife, Donna, who recently rented him an apartment. Bradford was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation after a search warrant was used to enter his apartment and two vehicles Friday, the patrol said.
Police investigating the May 13 shooting were told by two confidential informants at a Beaver County drug rehabilitation program that Moonda's wife, Donna, and Bradford were in a relationship, according to the affidavit for the search warrant.
The informants said Donna Moonda and Bradford met at a rehab program in Aliquippa. One said she rented a nearby apartment for him and the other said she bought him clothing, shoes and other expensive items, according to the affidavit. Police confirmed that she had recently rented an apartment, the affidavit said.
One informant told police that Bradford said Donna Moonda was trying to divorce her husband and "would receive $3 million to $4 million in the divorce settlement," according to the affidavit.
The informant told police that Donna Moonda and Bradford had been in a relationship for several months. The other informant said Donna Moonda called the relationship serious.
'My son is innocent'
It was not immediately clear whether Bradford had an attorney, but his mother, Sharon Bradford, told KDKA-TV, "My son is innocent, OK, and this is all wrong. It is like a nightmare."
She said her son "feels very bad for the man being dead," and termed the relationship between her son and Donna Moonda "just one of those things."
Donna Moonda would visit her son several times a week, she said.
"She's just a nice girl and my son's just in love with her and she's in love with my son," she told WTAE-TV.
OSHP investigators have interviewed Bradford and continue to interview other witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the OSHP Berea District Headquarters at (440) 234-2096.
What happened
Moonda, his wife and her mother were driving to Toledo when they stopped along the side of the turnpike in North Royalton, a Cleveland suburb, to change drivers. A car pulled up behind their 2000 Jaguar, and a man got out and demanded money, police said. After Moonda turned over his wallet, the gunman shot the doctor in the head and fled.
Moonda was a urologist at Sharon Regional Health System.
