YOUNGSTOWN -- Three men who police said fired into occupied houses last week on the East Side are in the Mahoning County jail awaiting preliminary hearings.
Arraigned Monday in municipal court on charges of felonious assault and discharging a firearm into a habitation were:
ULeo Prieto, 26, of Lansdowne Boulevard. Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set his bond at $250,000.
U Henry Scott III, 23, of Magnolia Avenue. The judge set his bond at $150,000.
U Lamont Williams, 20, of Bennington Avenue. His bond was set at $120,000.
All will return to court May 31 for a preliminary hearing.
Anthony J. Farris, chief assistant city prosecutor, told Judge Kobly that Prieto has an extensive criminal record and is on probation to a common pleas judge. Farris said the Ohio Adult Parole Authority would put a hold on Prieto at the jail.
At 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, at least 35 rounds from an assault rifle were fired at 1341 and 1343 Berwick Avenue, police said. One round hit a 16-year-old girl in her leg at 1343 Berwick, reports show.
The girl told police she was walking through the living room when she heard shooting outside the house and then felt a burning in her leg. Police said the bullet entered her left shin/calf area. Officers collected 34 spent rounds and one live round from the road.
It wasn't until later Wednesday morning, at 7, that the residents of 1336 and 1340 Berwick discovered bullet holes in their houses. Each house had been hit twice. A ski mask found in the rear yard of 1336 Berwick was taken as evidence.
