Playhouse offers classes for kids

YOUNGSTOWN -- "Summer Stages," a series of theater arts classes and plays directed to students in preschool through high school is being offered again by the Youngstown Playhouse.
Students can enroll in one-week courses at either beginning or advanced levels. Included are classes in acting, creative movement, musical theater, "fractured fairy tales," magic, technical theater and audition skills. Classes end with a "work sharing" performance for an invited audience.
New this summer is "An American Girls Workshop" in which students will create and perform an adventure based on the well-known dolls. The class, popular across the country, makes its area debut at the Playhouse.
Also being offered for the first time is "My Grownup and Me," designed for preschool and kindergarten children and their parent or caregiver, which will feature a "story trunk" designed to develop imagination and enhance creative play.
The Youth Theatre will also present two productions for children, "The Princess and the Pea," which will tour to local libraries in early August, and "Rumplestiltskin," which will play in the Playhouse's Moyer Room the last week of July.
