Cleveland Marathon
GIRARD -- Denise Baker and Lisa Baker, both of Girard, completed their first marathon Sunday at the Cleveland Marathon. The women finished in approximately 4 hours, 30 minutes.
Boone gets fight
YOUNGSTOWN -- The notice came Friday that super middleweight Darnell Boone will fight in Spokane, Wash., Tuesday.
Boone (5-0-1, 2 KOs), is managed by Jack Loew and Jim "Tank" DiCioccio of the Southside Boxing Club.
Boone will be part of the Tuesday card at the Northern Quest Casino. The 25-year-old will be in a six or eight- rounder with Walter Wright, 24, from Seattle who is 5-1 with three knockouts.
The fight will be the opener on ESPN2's Tuesday Night at the Fights.
The main event has Rodney Jones fighting Teddy Reid in a 12-rounder for the NABF light middleweight title.
Boardman baseball
BOARDMAN -- Boardman High's freshman baseball team won the Columbiana Junior Varsity Tournament by defeating Struthers in extra innings, 4-3.
The Spartans got to the championship round with wins against Leetonia, Steubenville Central Catholic and Lowellville.
Dan Kubala picked up the win for the Spartans. The Spartans are 21-6.
Wildcats defeatAkron 121-102
AKRON -- The Mahoning Valley Wildcats improved to 8-3 on the season with a 121-102 victory over the Akron Lightning here Sunday.
The Wildcats put six players in double figures, led by former YSU standouts A.C. Crocket with 22 and T.J. Anderson with 17.
Joe Lewandowski had 14 ponts while Bill Mallernee and Mark Metzka each added 12 and Lawrence Culliver chipped in with 10.
The Wildcats hit on 42 of 87 shots from the field, including 15 of 42 from 3-point range. Akron was just 41 of 101 from the field and 7-of-42 from behind the arc.
Culliver led the Wildcats with 17 rebounds as they outrebounded Akron 57-54.

Brewster TKOs Golota in first round
CHICAGO -- WBO heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster made quick work of Andrew Golota on Saturday night, scoring a technical knockout 53 seconds into their scheduled 12-round bout at the United Center.
Brewster knocked down Golota three times with thunderous left hooks, the first coming 13 seconds into the bout. After Golota got up, Brewster continued to attack and knocked the challenger between the second and third ropes.
Then, Brewster (32-2, 28 knockouts) landed a series of punches and ending the fight with another left hook that dropped Golota.
It was a quick end to the fight, and, possibly, Golota's career. The 37-year-old Golota (38-6-1, 31 KOs) said he would retire if he didn't win.
Adidas track
CARSON, Calif. -- Maurice Greene lost to training partner Leonard Scott in the 100 meters, Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner won the 400 and Olympic silver medalist Allyson Felix won the 200 at the Adidas Track Classic Sunday.
Scott overcame two false starts and a strong headwind to win in 10.03 seconds. Greene's starting blocks slipped and he wound up fourth in 10.32.
After a false start, Wariner won the 400 in 44.53, fastest in the world this year.
Felix also is coming off her first year competing on the international level. The Southern California freshman won the 200 in 22.14, barely edging a deep field.
Olympic champion Joanna Hayes won the 100 hurdles in 12.64 seconds, fastest in the world this year. She defeated a strong field that included Michelle Perry (second), Perdita Felicien of Canada (third) and Athens bronze medalist Melissa Morrison (seventh after a false start).
Jamaica's Veronica Campbell won the 100 in 10.96, fastest in the world this year, against a field loaded with Olympians. Muna Lee was second in 11.20 and Angela Daigle was third in 11.24. Angela Williams was fifth and former Olympian Inger Miller sixth.
Bershawn Jackson, pegged as the top U.S. prospect in the 400 hurdles, won in 47.62, the fastest time in the world this year and a personal best for the 22-year-old.
WORLD
Monterrey Grand Prix
MONTERREY, Mexico -- Bruno Junqueira stayed out of trouble Sunday to win the Monterrey Grand Prix.
Junqueira grabbed the lead for good on the 67th lap, overtaking England's Bjorn Wirdheim. A yellow flag slowed the action two laps later, allowing the Brazilian to cruise to victory.
Only 10 of the 19 cars in the field completed the 76-lap race.
