YANKEE LAKE -- The original country outlaw, David Allan Coe, will perform at Yankee Lake Ballroom at 7 p.m. Jan. 5. Tickets are $15 in advance through Ticketmaster, $22 at the door. Coe, best known as the writer for Johnny Paycheck's song, "Take This Job and Shove It," is a prolific sonwriter and performer. His first album was made up of songs he wrote while behind bars. His long hair and rough demeanor flew in the face of Nashville standards, but Coe hasn't changed.
Drama camp for students
COLUMBIANA -- The 34west Theater Co. presents its fourth annual Summer Arts Drama Camp "Lights, Camera, Action!" at Das Dutch Village Inn, July 11-15 for pupils in grades six through eight. At the conclusion of the camp, pupils will perform scenes and songs for family and friends and attend the premiere of the mini-movie they made. The final "Red Carpet Showcase" will be July 18. Youth Theater awards
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theater's annual awards will be next Sunday at the Youngstown Playhouse. The event will be hosted by the Playhouse Youth Board and will feature excerpts from this past season of Youth Theater shows. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.; the show will start at 8. A reception to honor the winners, and all performers will follow the ceremony. Tickets are $3 per person or $15 for families of five or more.
Locals star in one-acts
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Oakland Center for the Arts will present "A Night of One Acts," starring and directed by local talent, at 8 p.m. June 3-4 and 10-11 at the Oakland, 220 W. Boardman St., downtown. Performances include "Zoo Story," "Dentity Crisis," "WASP," "To Engage in Mutual Touching or Caressing of the Lips," "The Bald Soprano" and "Visitors from Forest Hills." The evening will provide a variety of genres and a span of directors including veterans, favorite community actors and student directors from Youngstown State University. Season tickets on sale for Straw Hat Theatre
ASHTABULA -- Straw Hat Theatre at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St., will be selling season subscriptions through June 10. A subscription can save up to 20 percent off the regular box office prices. Subscriptions are $43.20 for patron seating, $36 for adult general admission, $32.20 for seniors and $28.80 for students and children. Arts Center members receive an additional 10 percent off.
Opening the season will be "Peter Pan," running June 10-12 and 16-19. "Jesus Christ Superstar" will be staged June 24-26 and July 1-3, 8-10 and 14-17. "Bat Boy," a comedy/horror musical, will follow July 22-24 and 28-31. Concluding the season will be Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific," Aug. 5-7, 12-14 and 18-20. All shows begin at 8 p.m. Individual tickets are $12 patrons, $10 adults, $9 seniors and $8 students and children. Concessions sales to benefit scholarship
FRANKLIN, Pa. -- The Franklin Fine Arts Council will sell hot dogs and beverages this summer at most of the Thursday Night Concerts in the Park, along with the Fourth of July festivities. This year, concessions also will be run at the Penny Carnival and the Stone Skipping Tournament. All profits from the concession sales will go to the Arts Scholarship Fund, which is awarded annually to a graduating senior majoring in the arts in the Franklin/Valley Grove area.
