Local sponsors, state to team up

The Ohio Department of Education and local sponsors will provide free meals to children through the Summer Food Service Program.
There are several places in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties where children younger than 18 are able to receive free meals. No child is required to participate in activities or programs to receive the meals.
In Mahoning County, Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership is participating in the program for its second year. Last year, MYCAP served breakfast and lunch to more than 3,000 pupils.
Also in Youngstown, the Faith Fellowship Church of God will participate for its first year. They will serve meals on Saturdays to a minimum of 50 children, but plan on expanding.
The Warren City School District has provided meals to children for over five years with the Summer Food Service Program. Each summer they serve about 350 children daily. They serve any Warren resident younger than 18 years of age.
In Columbiana County, the Community Resource Center of East Liverpool will continue to provide meals and expand on last year's success.
The Summer Food Service Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The department provides cash reimbursements to nonprofit organizations that provide nutritionally adequate meals to low-income children or in low-income areas during summer.
