CAMPUS NOTES In the spotlight



UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Colin D. Clemente of Hubbard has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Colin will be honored during a campus ceremony in the fall.
NSCS is a national, nonprofit honors organization. Membership in NSCS is a symbol of outstanding academic achievement. NSCS offers students exclusive access to scholarships, career, resources and leadership opportunities. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average.
OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, Columbus
Ashley Allison of Youngstown recently received the Outstanding Senior Award and the Kaplan Humanitarian Award the 44th annual Leadership Awards ceremony. She was one of 25 students selected to receive the Senior Award and the only recipient of the Kaplan Award.
Allison, a journalism and political science major, is the daughter of Dr. Bennie and Fawn Allison and a graduate of Ursuline High School.
Among the highest awards given to undergraduates, the Outstanding Senior Award recognizes students who have made exceptional contributions to the Ohio State community.
The Kaplan Humanitarian Award is awarded to an undergraduate student who reflects an understanding and appreciation of human dignity in their efforts to foster involvement, programming, or education within the University community. The Kaplan Humanitarian award also includes a monetary scholarship.
MOUNT UNION COLLEGE, Alliance
Katy Kiraly, Joe Rettig and Alisa Tizo have been named as members of Mount Union College's Sophomore Service Honorary.
Sophomore Service is a local honorary with goals including serving the community through local service projects, assisting fellow students and faculty members, and promoting leadership and scholarship in the freshman class. Membership is limited to approximately thirty sophomores who are selected at the end of their freshman year on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and service to the college.
Kiraly is from McDonald, Rettig from East Palestine, and Tizio from Hermitage, Pa.
Jamie Musick of Warren, John Burkey of Salem and Beatrice Petzinger of Poland have recently been named to the Blue Key Honor Society at Mount Union College.
Blue Key is a national honorary for junior and senior students. Blue Key recognizes and selects students based upon their accomplishments in the areas of leadership, character, scholarship, and service to the college and community.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
Sigma Alpha Lambda announced that Elizabeth Ann Hahn and Jennifer Marie Starr of Youngstown, have recently become recognized as members of the group, which is a national leadership and honors organization dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development, and lifelong professional fulfillment.
WINGATE UNIVERSITY, Wingate, N.C.
Tiffany Booher of East Liverpool has been selected as the editor of The Weekly Triangle student newspaper for the fall semester 2005.
Booher, a senior majoring in communications, was opinion page editor of the newspaper during the 2004-2005 school year.
A 2002 graduate of Beaver Local High School, she is the daughter of Jeane Schneider and Louis Booher of East Liverpool.
WITTENBERG COLLEGE, SPRINGFIELD, OHIO
Brian Bennett, a freshman from Canfield, has been selected for membership in the university's chapter of Phi Eta Sigma. A 2004 graduate of Canfield High School, Bennett is a member of the varsity men's tennis team and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He is the son of Stephen and Cynthia Bennett of Canfield. Phi Eta Sigma is a national honor society that recognizes and encourage scholarship among first-year college men. Selection is based on achieving a 3.5 grade-point average for the fall semester of the first year.
