Cachet Murray wins 3 events; Lakeview claims girls title

ANDOVER -- Girard High senior Cachet Murray took a successful first step toward defending her three state titles with victories in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the long jump at the Division II district meet Friday at Pymatuning Valley.
Murray, a seven-time state champion, won the 100 with a time of 12.4, which was four-tenths of a second off her district record time from last year. She set a district record in the 200 on Wednesday (25.10) and won the event on Friday with a time of 25.6.
Murray leaped 17 feet, 9 inches to win the long jump and was just 2 inches off the district record, set by Painesville Harvey's Iris Keith in 1987. She was also a member of the second-place 4x400 relay, which finished behind Campbell.
Lakeview senior Katie Betts finished second in the 100 and 200 and was a member of the winning 4x200 relay and second place 4x100 relay to help lead the Bulldogs to the team title.
Lakeview easily edged Hubbard 143-89.
Katie Scannell, a member of Wednesday's winning 4x800 relay on Wednesday, added a victory in the 800 for the Bulldogs.
Hubbard senior Rachel Crafton won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, junior Kristen Angelo won the discus and freshman Katoria Carter won the 400 and helped the Eagles win the 4x400 relay.
Boys
Liberty senior Marcellus Bowman, a Boston College football recruit, won the 200 and 400 and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay as the Leopards finished third behind Ashtabula Edgewood and Garrettsville Garfield for the team title.
Liberty junior John Humphrey, a Purdue football recruit, was on the winning 4x100 relay and also took fourth in the discus after finishing second in the shot put on Wednesday.
The top four in each event advanced to next week's Division II regional meet at Ravenna.
Leopard junior Donovan Fletcher won the high jump and senior Aaron Pollack won the 800. Fletcher and Pollack were also members of the winning 4x400 relay.
Lakeview senior Mark Bogard won the 3200 as the Bulldogs placed fourth overall.
