Volunteers to gather to keep village beautiful

McDONALD -- Village volunteers will clean up litter-strewn areas as part of the two-month-long Great American Cleanup in Trumbull County.
Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ramsay Pavilion on the corner of 5th and Ohio streets. Trash bags, gloves, safety vests and other supplies will be provided.
This marks the 16th year the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has been involved in promoting litter cleanups districtwide.
More than 15 community cleanup events, and hundreds of group and school cleanups, have taken place throughout April and May. Activities have included cleaning parks and recreation areas, picking up roadside litter, planting flowers and conducting educational programs.
The Great American Cleanup in Geauga and Trumbull Counties is expected to involve more than 8,000 volunteers. Nationally the Great American Cleanup, sponsored by Keep America Beautiful, is in 15,000 communities, involving 2.3 million people.
