May 20, 1980: A petition signed by 957 persons calling for the resignation of Larry Miller, president of the Jackson-Milton Board of Education, are given to the board. Opposition to Miller mounted after two principals, a teacher and a coach were dismissed in what they said was a vendetta being pursued by Miller.
Youngstown will not try to enforce its new ordinance banning the sale of drug paraphernalia in the city until a federal appeals court rules on a suit brought by "head shop" owners challenging the constitutionality of the law.

Bob Groves, Mahoning County extension agent, says most of Mahoning County will not be affected by emerging 17-year locusts. Only Smith, Goshen, Berlin and Milton townships are likely to see locusts in 1965; the rest of the county will see them in 1968.

Federal tax liens filed against Vincent J. DeNiro, allegedly one of the city's two top numbers operators, claim that he owes the government upward of $10,000 in unpaid income taxes.
Contracts totaling $1.2 million for construction of the new South Side Catholic high school are awarded, with Charles Shutrump & amp; Sons Co. named the general contract at $940,000.
May 20, 1930: On the recommendation of Youngstown schools Superintendent J. J. Richeson, 1,050 teachers will be rehired and 100 will not, due to financial considerations. Of the 100, about 40 resigned or asked for leaves of absence, the other 60 were from the ranks of married women. Richeson has sought to eliminated married women from teaching.
The American Legion is making plans to drop wreaths from an airplane on Memorial Day on all of the cemeteries in Youngstown where war dead are buried. The Waco plane will be piloted by William Jones and passenger William Young will drop the wreaths.
Additional offices of the Republic Steel Corp. are being brought to Youngstown with the consolidation of the sale headquarters of the Central Alloy Steel Co. and the Donner Steel Co. of buffalo N.Y. with the general sales offices.
