Report: Pay next Pittsburgh school chief more

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The city's next school superintendent should be paid more than his predecessor and should have more authority to set policy, said a community group that advocates improving student performance in the district.
The A+ Schools report was based on comments that were collected at an April public forum hosted by the nonprofit group.
The report, released this week, did not suggest how much Pittsburgh Public Schools should pay the superintendent, but suggested compensation should include performance-based incentives.
The school board is looking for a permanent replacement for John Thompson, the former superintendent who was fired by the school board. He made $187,500 a year.
