"We have 50 takes a day of bad things happening. We had a sheep I was terrified of because it kept wanting to head-butt me, and a pig that peed all over the guy who's the vet." -- Actress Sara Paxton ("Darcy's Wild Life"), on the unpredictability of the animals on the show, in J-14 magazine.
"Greaser. Everyone thought I looked like one of the guys from `The Outsiders.' I was poor and wore white T-shirts." -- Actor Chad Michael Murray, on his childhood nickname, in People.
"During my freshman year in high school, I weighed, like, 103 pounds. ... Then there was a period where I grew, like, six inches and put on 50 pounds in one year. I was growing so fast that I couldn't afford new pants. ... I think everybody feels awkward." -- Ashton Kutcher, when asked if he went through an awkward phase, in Teen People.
Luscious lips
Ladies, we want to start this review by saying we think you are beautiful the way you are.
That said, we completely understand the pressure felt by your idea of perfection. And, plus, this stuff will enhance, rather than change your look.
So what on earth are we talking about? Pouty, plumped-up movie-star lips _ without the need for needles. We tried one of the new lip plumpers, this one by LipFusion. It's unique in that it has received the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
Despite the seemingly crackpot science behind the idea of a gloss being able to change your lips, this stuff works _ but not so much you're gonna look like a caricature of yourself. It's a slight plump that leaves your lips a little pouty, but mostly just pleasantly glossy. We also noticed it seems to work better on some people than others (see the examples at www.fusionbeautylabs.com/beauty.asp).
Get LipFusion ($36) and try it for yourself from Sephora.com.
Soft skin
With the end of the school year upon us, it is most definitely prank season. But we have to warn you, this is not the kind of shaving cream you should use to write a message on your best friend's windshield. (Besides, we totally don't endorse that activity!)
This is Skintimate Moisturizing Shave Gel. It's enhanced with vitamin E, skin conditioners, emollients (which, for those of you not near a dictionary, "softens or smooths & quot;) and other lubricants to help ease a razor blade across your skin. With all that in it, we'd better not hear of you using this gel on anything but your sensitive skin (don't think we won't know!).
The gel has been a favorite of ours for a while (we love the Soothing Lavender version), but new for summer is Melon Burst fragrance. You'd think it would smell overwhelmingly of fake watermelon, but it doesn't. It's like they took a watermelon and a cantaloupe and squeezed them until they got all the juice out. Then they added a dash of berry and voila! The gel smells refreshingly of summer.
Get Skintimate's Shave Gels in drugstores, supermarkets and stores like Target and Wal-Mart for about $2.50.
