MEDICAL ALLIANCE New officers installed at luncheon meeting



The new president is an 11-year member of the alliance.
POLAND -- Carol A. Sankovic was installed as the 66th president of the Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance at a luncheon meeting May 5 at Poland Library.
Marlene Irvin, Ohio State Medical Association president, presided.
Also installed were Stephanie Hunter, president-elect; Lynee Alad-Toss, vice president; Tricia Potesta, corresponding secretary; Gloria Detesco, recording secretary; and Anita Gestosani, treasurer.
Those attending brought personal-hygiene items, which were donated to Emmanuel Community Care Center's transitional housing program. A check for $5,000 was presented from fund-raising proceeds to the Silver Lining Cancer Fund in memory of past president Ann Might.
The new president
During her term, Sankovic plans to focus on raising funds for the Rich Center for Autism and Beatitude House.
She is a Youngstown area native and graduate of Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University, where she earned a bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She taught at the high-school level for 15 years and manages the office of her husband, Dr. Danny Sankovic,
She has been active in the alliance for the last 11 years, serving as president of Columbiana County Medical Alliance for two years. She is president of Canfield PTO and secretary for the Youngstown Symphony Guild, and is serving on the capital campaign at St. Michael Church in Canfield.
She also is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Youngstown, serves on the Soccer Booster Association for Canfield schools and for many years served on the Susan G. Komen Appropriations Committee for Northeast Ohio.
She is past president of Big Brothers and Sisters of Greater Akron, the YWCA of Salem, Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron and TWIGS of Salem.
In 2003, she received the Outstanding Woman of Achievement Award from the YWCA of Salem for her seven-year contribution to the board of the YW.
She lives in Canfield with her husband and their two sons.
