NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- At their regular meeting Tuesday, Lawrence County commissioners plan to match up this year's liquid fuels money with various road projects taking place throughout the county.
At their caucus on Thursday, commissioners announced several projects they plan to contribute to with some $150,000 in liquid fuels funding that the state has provided to the county.
Essentially, commissioners gave each community an opportunity to submit proposals to the county for projects being considered.
"We try to factor in what money has been distributed to any particular municipality in the past," said Commissioner Chairman Dan Vogler. "It's not easy to decide which projects to support. All of the requests for assistance are legitimate. We're trying to be as fair as possible."
Commissioners will vote on funds disbursement Tuesday. The project proposals will be forwarded to PennDOT, which will work with municipalities to complete each project.
Each of the three commissioners was permitted to recommend how he wanted to disburse one-third of the money, or $50,000. Vogler said the county is looking to keep some of the funding in its liquid fuels account for emergencies, such as flooding. He said additional projects are still being considered.
