Board to certify defeat of Lakeview levy

WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Elections today will certify that Lakeview schools' levy failed by two votes.
The vote totals are 1,764 for the levy and 1,766 against, said Kelly Pallante, elections director. The board of elections staff did a recount of May 3 ballots this week.
The school district in Cortland was informed about the result and already has filed to place the issue on the Aug. 2 special election ballot, she noted.
Lakeview's 3.5-mill emergency levy, which would raise about $900,000 a year for five years, had been defeated by 10 votes in the unofficial count.
School officials were hoping the levy would pass so that the district finances would remain in the black after 2006.
The special election will cost the school district about $10,000 to open up the precincts, school district Treasurer Milt Williams has said.
