TRUMBULL COUNTY Company to review 911 setup
Commissioners also will give tax breaks to a plywood company in Vienna.
WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners plan to allocate $24,437 today to hire a consulting company to review the 911 operation and how it's funded.
The money, from the funds for the county's 911 Center in Howland, would be for RCC Consultants Inc. of Tallahassee, Fla., for a budget and staffing analysis.
RCC Consultants submitted a proposal to the county. Also submitting a proposal was L. Robert Kimball & amp; Associates of Ebensburg, Pa., at a cost of about $14,000 more, said Tim Gladis, 911 Center director. Commissioners were not required by law to seek proposals, but chose to do so anyway.
RCC Consultants
According to its Web site, RCC Consultants is an international telecommunications consulting, integration and outsourcing company that has served the industry since 1983. RCC provides solutions to its clients' problems through the application of both wireless and wired communications and information technologies.
"RCC provides an unbiased objective approach to the communications needs of the corporate sector and government. ... RCC does not represent any equipment manufacturer," it adds.
The company has offices in New Jersey, Florida, Virginia, California, Texas and Pennsylvania. Emergency number services, such as 911, is one of its areas of specialization.
The 911 Center in Howland is 80 percent funded by Trumbull County and 20 percent by member communities. Some communities -- Liberty, Girard, Newton Falls, Warren Township, Niles, Hubbard and Lordstown -- are not members.
The consultant is to find the most cost-effective way to operate the 911 system.
Layoffs to come
The center dispatches for 20 townships, Cortland, Orangeville and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department. The communities that are part of the 911 center are trying to find ways to persuade other communities to join them.
Commissioners have approved the 911 layoffs to ensure enough money will be available to keep the department running through year's end. Five dispatchers and one supervisor are being cut and one administrative data processor is going to part time with no benefits.
Also today, commissioners are set to approve an enterprise zone agreement for Pittsburgh Forest Products to set up operation at 1330 Ridge Road, Vienna. The company will get tax incentives of 60 percent for 10 years on new personal property at the site, totaling $2.6 million to $6.7 million.
The company is leasing the former Commuter Aircraft Corp. building for installation of a plywood mill and equipment for processing the product for distribution to its warehouse in Lordstown. It plans to hire 30 new workers within one year of the project's completion.
