Boardman tennis
ROCKY RIVER -- Scott Warden of Boardman High School will go against Brad Noel of Westlake in a first-round singles match at the Division I district tennis tournament Thursday at Tri City Park.
Should he advance, the championship round will be played Saturday.
PAC baseball
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Six area athletes were selected to the Presidents' Athletic Conference all-star baseball squad.
First team choices were Westminster College's senior Kevin Gesacion, Boardman, second base; Thiel College's senior Keith Jackson, Salem, pitcher, and Kevin Henderson, East Liverpool, catcher; Washington & amp; Jefferson sophomore Sam Mann, Howland, pitcher, and Bethany junior Adam Meadows, Wellsville, outfield.
Thiel junior Mark Nightingale, East Liverpool, was a second team choice in the outfield.
Westminster track
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Senior thrower Phil Frye, a Mineral Ridge High graduate, will compete for Westminster in the ECAC championships Thursday and Friday at Springfield (Mass.) College.
Freshman Jessica Cooper, a Laurel High graduate, has qualified for the NCAA Division III championships at Waverly, Iowa, May 26-28.
She set the school record (5 feet, 41/2 inches) in the high jump at the Wheeling Jesuit Invitational.

Winslow and Brownsawait results
CLEVELAND -- Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. underwent an MRI Tuesday to determine how badly he injured his right knee while crashing his motorcycle on May 1.
Browns spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said the club was still awaiting results of the procedure.
Pirates' Perezto start Saturday
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Oliver Perez, sidelined since May 6 with shoulder stiffness, will not go on the disabled list and is scheduled to start Saturday night against Colorado.
Perez has been working daily with pitching coach Spin Williams to smooth out an irregular delivery, and Perez said he is encouraged by several successful bullpen throwing sessions.
Duquesne player hit with marijuana charge
PITTSBURGH -- Duquesne University's top basketball player has been suspended from the team following his arrest on marijuana possession charges, school officials said Tuesday. Bryant McAllister, who will be a senior next season, was arrested May 10 in Whitaker, a small Pittsburgh suburb next to his hometown of West Mifflin.
Temple joins MAC
PHILADELPHIA -- Temple found a taker for its woeful football program in the Mid-American Conference, a league school officials maintain will be a far more accommodating place for the Owls to play.
The exiled Owls ended four years of uncertainty by officially joining the MAC on Tuesday after 13 miserable seasons in the Big East. The Owls will be affiliate members in 2005 and 2006, slowly adding conference teams to the schedule until they are full football members in 2007. The Owls also will be eligible for one of the MAC's two bowl affiliations in 2005 and 2006.

*PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia first baseman Jim Thome will head to Florida for two days of extended spring training before a possible activation from the disabled list on Friday.
*KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Mike Moriarty from the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday for future considerations and assigned him to Triple-A Ottawa.
Earlier Tuesday, the Orioles released infielder Enrique Wilson, who was playing for Ottawa, and he then signed with the Cubs.
Suns president named NBA executive of year
PHOENIX -- Phoenix Suns president Bryan Colangelo was honored as the NBA's executive of the year by The Sporting News on Tuesday after emerging from his father's shadow to engineer the third-biggest turnaround in league history.
It was the first time a father and son have won the award. Suns chairman and former owner Jerry Colangelo was a four-time winner.
