Innocent plea entered
GIRARD -- A June 22 pretrial has been scheduled for a former Hubbard schools official who was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of public indecency.
Carl Morell filed a written plea of innocent Tuesday with the municipal court. By filing the written plea, Morell did not have to appear in court. He is being represented by Atty. Jeff Adler.
Morell, 72, of Hubbard, was arrested on the charge around 8:30 p.m. May 11 in the parking area near Truck World Boulevard. According to Hubbard Township police and Trumbull County 911 log sheets, a truck driver called the police and said he spotted a man performing a sexual act in his car. Morell was in the vehicle alone, police said.
If convicted, he could face up to 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.

Phony money orders
BROOKFIELD -- Township police have given a case dealing with phony money orders to the U.S. Postal inspector in Pittsburgh.
Detective Pete Gibb said Tuesday that a township woman cashed numerous fake U.S. Postal money orders at a local bank. Gibb declined to give the amount cashed but said it was under $10,000.
The woman, who has not been charged, said the money orders were sent to her from a man in London, England. The woman said she met the man on the Internet.
Ballot will include levy
CORTLAND -- The Lakeview Board of Education decided Tuesday to put its school levy on the August ballot, in the event that this week's recount of May 3 ballots doesn't generate the votes needed for passage.
The Lakeview vote -- in which the levy was defeated 1,759 to 1,749 -- was the closest in the May primary in the unofficial count.
The 3.5-mill emergency levy would raise about $900,000 a year for five years.
The Trumbull County Board of Elections began its recount of this month's election results Tuesday and will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to certify the official results.
Treasurer Milt Williams said that if the levy ends up passing after the recount, the board's motion will be rescinded. If not, the special election will cost the school district about $10,000 to open up the precincts, he said.
