India Children's Choir to sing story of Christian conversion

DAMASCUS -- Damascus United Methodist Church, 260 Valley Road, will present a performance by the India Children's Choir at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The choir tells the story of their people's transformation over two generations from fierce headhunters to ambassadors for Christ. The conversion took place in the early 1900s when the Gospel of John had been given to the tribal leaders.
Dr. Rochunga Pudaite, a native from the region, translated the Bible into the Hmar language for his people, and today 96 percent of the tribe are Christians. The 22 children in the choir, who range in age from 9 to 12 years old, are descendants of these remote tribes from northeast India.
Pudaite, along with his wife, Mawii, founded Bibles For The World in 1959, a mission dedicated to sharing the Bible with people in their native languages on a global scale.
Contact the church office at (330) 537-3031 for more information about the concert. For more information about Bibles For The World, visit www.biblesfortheworld.org.
