COURT July trial dates are scheduled for 2 of 5 charged in murder

YOUNGSTOWN -- Trial dates were set for two of five people charged with the shooting death of a 26-year-old man last year.
Taryse Ingram, age not reported, and Lachonna D. Tarver, 25, who both listed Kendis Circle addresses, were arraigned Tuesday on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery before Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Their cases have been assigned to Judge Maureen A. Cronin. Trial dates tentatively have been set for July 20.
Aggravated murder carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. Aggravated robbery has a maximum 10-year prison term.
Two of five
A county grand jury returned indictments last week on the charges against the two women and also against Craig Owens, 22, of Coitsville; Cedric V. Phillips, 20, of Charlotte, N.C.; and Denise Jackson, 21, of Kendis Circle.
Court officials said the other three defendants remain at large.
All five are charged with planning the death of Efrin Brown of Gladstone Street on April 16, 2004.
The grand jury also said the five committed the crime while attempting to flee the scene after committing an aggravated robbery.
The indictment also says the five used a firearm in the commission of the crimes. If found guilty of the firearm specification, they could be sentenced up to an additional three years in prison.
Police reports said Brown, whom family members had reported missing for three days, was found dead in a Kendis Circle apartment on the city's East Side that had been under renovation.
The police report does not specify the type of weapon used to kill Brown.
