Man faces 3 felony counts after break-in
BOARDMAN -- Police arrested a 26-year-old Poland man over the weekend after he was found lying in brush near a South Avenue pharmacy that had been broken into.
Police were called to CVS about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when alarms at the store had gone off. An officer saw someone run into a wooded area on the east side of the plaza.
A K-9 officer from Canfield police was called for assistance and police found Joseph A. Hayes, 26, of East Calla Road, Poland, lying in brush on the plaza's east side.
Police said Hayes' pockets were bulging with pill bottles and he admitted to officers that he had broken into the store.
Hayes was charged with breaking and entering, receiving stolen property and drug abuse, all felonies.
Boy faces retaliation and other charges
BOARDMAN -- A 17-year-old South Avenue youth faces charges of aggravating menacing, retaliation, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and drug abuse after a struggle with police.
Police went to the boy's home Sunday evening acting on an order from Mahoning County Juvenile Court, stemming from another case.
The boy struggled and fought with police, threatened to kill himself, swore at the officers and said he'd put a "slug" in the heads of each officer arresting him, according to reports. One officer was kicked in the head during the struggle.
The boy had a bag of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket resulting in the drug-abuse charge, reports said.
Fire damages home
AUSTINTOWN -- An early morning fire Monday caused about $30,000 to a home at 3421 Warwick Court.
The blaze started in the chimney about 3:30 a.m. and spread to the roof and side wall. A firefighter battling the flames fell through the roof but was fine later Monday, Chief Andrew Frost said.
Vehicles damaged
YOUNGSTOWN -- Windows on four company vehicles parked at Youngstown Shade and Aluminum, 3335 South Ave., were smashed and tools taken, reports show. The damage was discovered Sunday afternoon.
Antique fixtures stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- Antique fixtures worth around $5,000 were taken from a vacant house in the 200 block of Park Avenue, police said. The break-in was discovered Sunday.
Stolen were cabinet hardware (knobs and hinges), a bathroom towel bar, soap dishes and plumbing fixtures, reports show
YSU to host event
YOUNGSTOWN -- Art exhibits, speeches, poetry readings, performances and discussions on the working class are among the events featured at the seventh biennial conference of the Center for Working-Class Studies at Youngstown State University from Wednesday through Saturday.
The conference, which is part of the CWCS 10th anniversary celebration, is titled "New Working-Class Studies: Past, Present, and Future."

Robbery and assault
WARREN -- A 20-year-old woman told police she was robbed and abducted by two women, then sexually assaulted by a man Sunday morning.
The woman, who was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, said two women she didn't know assaulted her, took her purse and forced her into a dark-colored vehicle around 6:15 a.m.
Inside, the driver, a man she also didn't know, drove her around and forced her to have sex, the police report states.
Police believe the encounter occurred on the northeast side of the city. No arrests have been made.
