Wildcats lose
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Joe Lewandowski had 25 points and Rick McFadden added 22 points and eight rebounds for the Mahoning Valley Wildcats, who lost to Des Moines 129-116 in an International Basketball League game Saturday.
Lawrence Culver had 18 points, A.C. Crockett had 12 points and 10 assists and Robbie Robinson grabbed 17 rebounds for Mahoning Valley (7-3), which has lost two straight.
Terrence McGee scored 32 points for Des Moines (7-1).
The Wildcats will play at Akron on Saturday.
Mooney loses two
MASSILLON -- The Mooney High softball team played a doubleheader against Federal League teams Saturday at the Massillon Tigertown Classic.
In a 5-4 loss to Canton McKinley, DiAndra Dibacco tripled and Kaitlyn Bernat had two hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals.
In a 6-0 loss to Uniontown Lake (21-3), Laura Guyer's fourth-inning double was the only hit for Mooney (16-8).
Mathews' Morrisonchooses Mount Union
ALLIANCE -- Melissa Morrison, a senior at Mathews High School will continue her basketball career at Mount Union College this fall.
She was a four-year letterwinner at guard for the Mustangs and second team all-county, honorable mention all-district and honorable mention all-league. Morrison was also a two-year letterwinner in volleyball.
Three headedto Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Three Pennsylvania area football players will continue their athletic careers at Westminster College.
Robert Kerr of New Castle, 6-2, 225-pound defensive lineman; Jeff Bell of Grove City, 6-2, 250 offensive-defensive lineman Brandon Phillian of Wilmington Area High, 5-10, 185 linebacker/center will play for the Titans.
Sharon Speedway
SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Speedway will host an FMX motorcycle stunt competition this weekend. Racing will resume on May 28.
Rain canceled Saturday's racing for the third time in four weeks and fourth time this season. The first kids bike race night will be held May 28 as part of "The Great School Escape" with school bus races. Free Venango County night has been rescheduled for June 18.

NORTH CANTON -- The correct members of Boardman's winning 4x800-meter relay team in last Friday's Federal League Championships are Jake Lape, Dave Haushalter, Rick Lape and Jim Hlebak. The results were submitted incorrectly.
Boardman freshmanrecord snapped
NORTH CANTON -- Matt Moore snapped Boardman's freshman record for the 800-meter run at Friday's Federal League Championships in North Canton. His time of 2:02.31 broke the previous mark of 2:04.3, set by Tod Banks in 1990.
Umpires meeting
STRUTHERS -- The Mahoning Valley Umpire's Association will hold a mandatory meeting tonight at 8:30 for all umpires interested in working local sandlot baseball leagues this summer. Junior Olympic boxing
WARREN -- Thirteen of the 14 bouts at Saturday's Lake Erie Junior Olympic qualifying tournament went the three-round distance at H.B. Turner Middle School.
In one of the night's better fights, Warren Boxing Club's Ryan Davis outscored Jose Rodriguez of Akron's Porter Boxing Team in an 85-pound junior division match bout.
The Warren Club's three other boxers vying for titles lost decisions.
In an 80-pound junior division title match, Royce McCormick (Akron's Good Shepherd Boxing Club) decisioned Warren's Devontae Wesson.
Khalil Wordlaw (Cleveland's Teen America Boxing) won a close decision over Warren's Jamelle Vann for the 100-pound intermediate division championship.
Warren's Kaleem Vann lost to Brett Simmons in a 114-pound intermediate division championship fight. Simmons was named the tournament's outstanding boxer.
Cleveland's Teen America Boxing won three championships, as did the Salvation Army Boxing Academy of Cleveland. Thirteen titles were claimed on Saturday and 20 overall in the two-night tournament.
