YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Symphony Chorus Concert "For the Masses" will be at 4 p.m. May 22 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave. The program will include Schubert's "Mass in G," Verdi's "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco," Beethoven's "Hallelujah," Burleigh's "Deep River," Thompson's "Last Words Of David," Barber's "Sure on This Shining Night," Porter's "Begin the Beguine" and Bernstein's "Best of All Possible Worlds." Free-will donations will be accepted. The chorus also will perform at 7 p.m. May 24 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave. Refreshments will follow the concerts. Penn Ohio Singers show
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Penn Ohio Singers Chorus of the Shenango Valley Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is presenting its 24th annual show at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hickory High School. The show will feature many Frank Sinatra songs. The featured guest entertainment will be The Alliance from Columbus and several of their quartets. The Alliance ranks among the top 2 percent of barbershop choruses worldwide in competition over the past five years. Its members range in age from 18 to 80. Ballet Ashtabula
ASHTABULA -- "Dangerous Lines," a production of Ballet Theatre Ashtabula, will open Friday on the Ashtabula Arts Center stage and continue through Sunday and May 20-22. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows begin at 2. Music includes pieces by Ray Charles, Bach, The Black Eyed Peas, Sade and many others, including a full company piece titled "Hey Mama," which is derived from African rhythms. The ballet has been in residence at the arts center for 22 years. Under the direction of Shelagh Dubsky, the company produces two shows each year. "Nutcracker" is performed every December. The spring show is a new creation each year and is designed to feature the company's most experienced dancers. Many of these teens and young adults have been studying dance since they were young children. Tickets can be reserved by calling the center at (440) 964-3396. Prices are $12 for patron seating, $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students and children.
'Rock 'n' Roll'
MIDDLEFIELD -- Deanna Adams, author of "Rock 'n' Roll and the Cleveland Connection," will present a two-part program on the history of rock 'n' roll in Northeast Ohio at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Middlefield Library, 16167 E.
