PREP BASEBALL South Range clinches ICL title



Hubbard defeated LaBrae to set up a TAC showdown with Champion Monday.
NORTH LIMA -- The South Range High baseball team scored 11 runs in the first three innings as it defeated Mineral Ridge 14-4 Friday in a Inter-County League game.
The Raiders (13-0, 10-2) won the ICL title for the fifth straight year.
Tom DeChellis, Ben Detwiler and Codey Deal each had two hits to pace South Range.
Steve Bensinger scattered five hits to pick up the win.
Frank Messuri hit a double and Brad Ward hit two singles and scored twice for the Rams (14-4).
Hubbard 12, LaBrae 2
LEAVITTSBURG -- The Eagles (14-4, 10-3) scored four runs in the first inning, then put the Trumbull Athletic Conference game out of reach as they scored six more runs in the sixth inning.
Rob Sullivan doubled twice, singled and scored three times for Hubbard. Tom Jones hit a home run and double and drove in four runs.
Mark Yartz led the Vikings (9-9) with a home run two singles, drove in a run and scored once.
Hubbard will entertain Champion (10-3) for the league championship Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Western Reserve 13,Jackson-Milton 2
BERLIN CENTER -- Ryan Pauken had a two-run home run and a double to drive in three runs as Western Reserve rolled past Jackson-Milton.
Ryan Lede added a solo homer and double, while Dave Ferrando had three singles and Josh Lappanzi chipped in with a double and two singles for the Blue Devils (14-7, 7-5 ICL).
Zack Kosa had two hits including a home run and Matt Nagy added two with a double for Jackson-Milton.
Niles 4-12, Howland 3-1
NILES -- The Red Dragons scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game, resumed from May 10.
Vince Matt and Sean Cleary had two hits apiece for Niles.
Adam Solich led the Tigers with two hits.
In the second game, Niles jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings. Mike Ruscitti, Robbie Porter and Cleary each had three hits for the Red Dragons (15-10, 6-6 Metro Athletic Conference).
Kyle Pitts pitched a three-hitter and struck out five to pick up the win.
Jackson 7, Boardman 6
MASSILLON -- Boardman held a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Jackson rallied for five runs and a Federal League victory.
Joe Lancianese had a home run and a double and three RBIs for the winners (14-7, 5-7).
Boardman (13-12, 4-7) was led by Justin Lemmo with two hits including a home run, while Chris Tremblay, and Cameron Cimino also added two hits.
Kent Roosevelt 4, Salem 3
SALEM -- The Quakers (14-11) fell behind 4-0 and couldn't catch up. Ryan Hunber went 2-for-3 with a double to pace Kent Roosevelt (8-16).
Cody Dillon hit a pair of singles to pace the Quakers.
Youngstown Christian 13-10, Lutheran East 3-0
YOUNGSTOWN -- In both games of the doubleheader, the Eagles scored all their runs in the first two innings.
Jared VanArsdale hit a pair of doubles to spark Youngstown Christian in the first game.
A two-run home run by Aaron Tate and a pair of doubles by winning pitcher Ed Gonda (1-2) led the Eagles (9-7, 6-5 East Suburban League) in the second contest.
