Hazardous waste collection Saturday

There are designated times for residents to drop off items.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County's Reuse & amp; Recycling Division will have the first of two household hazardous waste collections for the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
County commissioners approved an agreement to pay up to $150,000 for the two collections at their Thursday meeting. Clean Harbors Environmental Services will conduct the collections for the county's recycling division, also known as the Green Team.
Clean Harbors corporate offices are in Massachusetts, but it has more than 100 locations throughout the country. It is one of North America's leading providers of environmental and hazardous waste management services, says its Web site.
What's accepted?
Residents can dispose of oil-based paint (still in liquid form), pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries and other types of household wastes not accepted at the curb or at drop-off sites.
The disposal site will be near the fairgrounds dairy barns. Those choosing to participate should enter at Gate 9 off state Route 46 and leave by going onto Leffingwell Road.
The collection hours are designated by people's last names.
People whose last names begin with the letters A-F should come between 9 and 11 a.m. People with last names beginning with letters G-N should come from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and if your last name begins with the letters O-Z, the collection times are from 1 to 3 p.m.
Green Team officials said no explosives or tires will be accepted.
The second household hazardous waste collection will be in October and the day, time and location will be announced later.
