4-run innings spark Campbell

The Red Devils will play Springfield in the district semifinals.
STRUTHERS -- It has been an up-and-down baseball season for Campbell Memorial High. The Red Devils may have found the up side at the right time.
Thursday at Cene Park, the Red Devils used a pair of four-run innings and the pitching of junior Lonnie McQueen to knock off Ursuline 9-4 in a Division III sectional championship game.
Campbell (12-9) will face Springfield in a district semifinal May 19 at Cene Park at 4:30 p.m.
McQueen (6-2) tossed a complete game, striking out nine (six on called third strikes). He allowed nine hits, walked three and hit one batter, throwing 122 pitches.
The Red Devils also got a big day from two seniors, Antoni Zembillas and Louie Samonas.
Zembillas was 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs while Samonas had three hits and scored three times. Jim Bigley added a pair of hits for Campbell.
Ryan Satterlee had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs, and Matt Yarab had two hits for the Irish (16-7). Josh Tedesco (6-2) allowed five runs, four of which were earned. The Irish committed six errors, three in the first inning and three in the fourth.
"You cannot make six errors against a team like Campbell and expect to win a baseball game," Ursuline coach Sean Durkin said.
"We've been waiting all year for that kind of a performance," Campbell coach Wayne Zetts said. "We have been trying to get [Campbell's hitters] to swing at strikes and I think the bunts played a crucial part in this game today.
"When we come to play defensively there are not too many teams that can beat us," Zetts said.
Samonas scored in the bottom in the first inning when he reached on an error, was awarded second when Ursuline attempted a fake tag (illegal in high school), went to third on a sacrifice and scored on a Craig DiRienzo's sacrifice fly.
Ursuline tied the score in the second when Yarab led off with a single and came around to score on Dom Cutrone's fielder's choice.
The Red Devils regained the lead in the third. Samonas led off with a single and Tirikos walked. With one out, Zembillas tripled to left-center, scoring both runners.
After a strikeout and a walk, Ryan Burton hit a triple to right-center, making it 5-1.
"They continued to put offensive pressure on us throughout the game," Durkin said.
Ursuline got back to 5-3 the following inning when Ryan Satterlee doubled to score Cutrone and Justin Markota.
Again, Campbell answered. Zembillas drove home two runs with a single, McQueen drove home one with a single and the fourth run came home on an error.
"I think McQueen pitched a pretty good game for them," Durkin said. "We had a lot of opportunities for big innings with two out hits but just did not do it today."
Eddie Rohan doubled in the seventh and scored on a hit by Yarab.
