Weathersfield zoning panel OKs new regulations

MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield Township Zoning Commission passed new regulations Wednesday on water management and sediment control.
The new regulations, called Erosion and Sediment Control, are required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The township regulations pertain to any construction project on land that is from 1 to 5 acres, township Zoning Inspector Sherri Craver said.
Similar regulations are in place at the county level and affect projects on five acres or more.
Craver said that most of the township's enforcement will be handled by the Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District, which the township will be using to review projects for compliance with the new regulations.
The regulations are intended to allow development but minimize increases in flooding, erosion and sedimentation, she said.
No construction that disturbs the soil can begin or any zoning certificates or conditional zoning certificates issued without an water management plan approved by the SWCD.
The regulations apply to all zoning uses in every zoning district.
