HELOISE Dryer sheets clean hardwood floors

Dear Heloise: Thank you and your mother for all the great, helpful hints through the years. I am especially grateful for the hint about used dryer sheets for cleaning hardwood floors. I purchased a dust mop with disposable sheets, and they worked great, but the company went out of business, and the other brands didn't fit mine. Two used dryer sheets work perfectly, and "the price is just right."
Here are a few of my other favorite hints:
URecycle old window shades to line cabinets under sinks. They're white and reflect light in a dark area. They are also waterproof for easy cleaning.
UStorage solution for cookie sheets and cutting boards: Recycle an old record rack. It is perfect under the sink and holds these items so they don't fall down when you remove one.
UDifficulty seeing the white arrows on a baby-aspirin bottle? Mark with permanent marker through the arrows on the lid and bottle -- easier to line them up. Mary E. Evans, Houston
Mary, thanks for sharing all your good hints. Heloise
Dear Heloise: I have a large, white plastic container that I (foolishly) froze homemade tomato sauce in. I bleached it, scrubbed it with a pad, used ammonia and lemon juice on it and also soaked it with white vinegar and baking powder. The stain has faded, but it is not completely gone.
Do you have any other suggestions I might try? Toni in New Jersey
Toni, it seems to me that you have tried just about everything I would suggest to clean those containers. Keep in mind that once you scrub and try to clean a container with a strong solution, like bleach, cleanser, etc., the inside might become porous and scratched. It then absorbs or holds on to the color of whatever you place inside it. This color stain is usually permanent, and you will probably need to replace the plasticware.
Keep in mind that nowadays you can buy cheap plastic storage containers for less than a buck.
To keep new containers from becoming stained, spray them with nonstick vegetable spray before adding anything to them. Or place a plastic freezer bag inside the bowl and fill the bag instead of the bowl. Then the bag can be lifted out or stored in the container. Heloise
Dear Heloise: I have a hint for anyone buying sheets. When I buy them for my queen-size bed, I buy them in solid colors. For full-size beds, I buy printed flowers. When I buy them for twin-size beds, I buy geometric designs. So, when they are clean and folded in the closet, I get the right color patterns for the bed. I don't have to unfold them to see what size they are. Tish in Texas
