BASEBALL Boardman topples Ashtabula Lakeside



Canfield and Salem advanced to district tournament games.
ASHTABULA -- Kevin Sikora (3-4) scattered four hits as the Boardman High baseball team defeated Ashtabula Lakeside, 4-1, in Wednesday's completion of a rain-delayed Division I tournament game.
The Spartans (12-11) advance to the Struthers District to play Lyndhurst Brush on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Cene Park.
Against Lakeside (15-3), Nate Tacsik homered and Cameron Cimino doubled. Justin Lemme had two hits.
Division II
CANFIELD -- Wilson's Alexandra Cardarelli's RBI single in the second inning broke up Dan Valentine's no-hitter in Canfield's 27-1 victory.
The Redmen (2-15) finished with three hits.
Metro Athletic Conference champion Canfield (19-6) advances to the Struthers District for Division II teams and will play Howland next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Salem 6, Alliance 2
ALLIANCE -- The Quakers' Ryan McCallister (5-1) allowed only a double to the Aviators' (15-9) David Dudley in the seventh inning to pick up the win.
The Quakers, in earning a Div. II sectional title, scored five runs in the fourth inning.
Craig Hritz hit a double and a single to pace Salem (14-10) and teammate Grant Sevek hit a single and drove in two runs.
Canton South 13, West Branch 5
CANTON -- Andy Todor drove in three runs for the Warriors (13-8) in the Div. II tournament game. John Wallace and Jim King doubled.
Regular season
McDONALD -- McDonald's Tyler Stanley had three hits and three RBIs and also picked up the pitching win as the Blue Devils beat South Range 11-1 in an Inter-County League game.
Steven Hughes, Paul Logar and Jonathan Camuso each had two hits for the Blue Devils (13-6, 9-3), who split the season series with the Raiders.
Josh Less and Ben Detwiler had two hits for South Range, which can clinch the ICL title outright with a win against Mineral Ridge on Friday. If the Raiders lose, they will share the title with McDonald.
Ursuline 9, Liberty 4
STRUTHERS -- Ursuline's Phil Bessoiu scattered six hits as he pitched a complete game to pick up the win.
Sean Satterlee went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and he scored once for the Irish (16-6).
Eddie Rohan hit a triple and double, drove in three runs and scored twice. Ryan Satterlee added two singles and scored three times.
Sam Barker led the Leopards (6-16) with a pair of singles and scored once.
Tuesday
Crestview 6, East Palestine 5
EAST PALESTINE -- Crestview rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning to prevail. Dave Baker and Zach Dunn each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
