Trial scheduled for manin public gaming case
CAMPBELL -- Frank Daltorio, 42, of Appleridge Drive, Boardman, will stand trial in August, charged with public gaming, a minor misdemeanor punishable by fine only.
At a pretrial Tuesday in municipal court, a felony gambling charge was dismissed based on a recommendation of Law Director Brian Macala and a misdemeanor charge of public gaming reduced to a minor misdemeanor, said Daltorio's Boardman attorney, J. Gerald Ingram.
Daltorio and five others were charged in January after police raided a dice game at the Devil's Den Sports Bar on 12th Street.
Daltorio was due in Cleveland federal court today in an unrelated sports bookmaking case that involved LaVilla Sports Bar & amp; Grille in Struthers. Daltorio reached a plea agreement with the government in that case.
Mosquito control
NILES -- Spraying for mosquito control is scheduled for May 18. The spraying will take place after 6 p.m., city health department officials said.
All those with respiratory problems should remain indoors with windows closed. All pets should be taken indoors, and food should not be prepared or left outside during the spraying period.
Special session
McDONALD -- Village council will meet in special session at 6 p.m. today to amend the second reading of an ordinance to employ a solicitor.
Town hall meeting
LIBERTY -- A town hall meeting regarding the state budget will be hosted by state Sens. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd, and Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown, D-33rd, at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Liberty Public Library, 415 Churchill Hubbard Road.
Dann and Hagan will make a presentation on the Local Government Innovation Fund and how the proposed budget will affect local governments within the Mahoning Valley and surrounding areas.
Now an annual event?
STRUTHERS -- Bouyed by the participation of more than 100 people in Join Hands Day on Saturday, participants plan to make the day an annual community event the first Saturday in May.
Volunteer activities performed by participants included assisting Habitat for Humanity in constructing houses, planting projects throughout the community, litter cleanup and assisting residents with special needs.
Organizations involved in the event were the Struthers Business Association, Struthers Manor, city of Struthers, Boy Scout Troop 101, Girl Scout Troop 969, Struthers Historical Society, Struthers Presbyterian Church, Struthers Alumni, Rotary Interact, National Slovak Society, Knights of Columbus and various athletic teams and clubs from Struthers High School.
Struthers businesses contributing to the event were Frattaroli's Sparkle Market, Nemenz IGA, Plaza Bakery and Struthers Business Association.
Numerous other individuals made contributions to buy flowers, plants and supplies.
The Green Team furnished material and supplies for the various litter cleanup activities.
Hypnosis sessions
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Lung Association of Ohio will offer hypnosis sessions for smoking cessation and weight loss Sunday in the Mill Creek Room at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Don Mannarino will conduct the sessions, which will begin at noon for the stop smoking and at 1 p.m. for the weight loss.
Advanced registration is required. The fee for each session is $50 and includes the group hypnosis session and an audio cassette or CD for home relaxation and one year of free reinforcement.
