Mooney rolls behind Courtney's no-hitter, 11-0

Champion advanced to the district semifinals with a win over Grand Valley.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mooney sophomore Colleen Courtney threw her second career no-hitter, blanking East Palestine 11-0 in six innings in a Division III sectional softball final on Tuesday at Volney Rogers.
Courtney (9-4) struck out six and walked two for the Cardinals (16-6), who will meet United on Tuesday at South Range.
Gina Fabian had three hits, three RBIs and two runs, Mimi Vitello had two hits and Laura Guyer had two hits and scored four runs in the win. Gina Brunetti had two hits, including a solo homer in the fourth.
East Palestine is 13-6.
Champion 9, Grand Valley 0
CHAMPION -- Champion pitcher Kasey Karr (12-0) tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 15, to lead the Flashes in a sectional final.
Karr, who did not walk a batter, gave up a hit to Heather Sweeney in the sixth inning.
Hillary Beachy and Emily Hayes each had three hits for the Flashes (23-1), who will meet LaBrae in Tuesday's district semifinal.
Grand Valley finishes at 4-15.
Regular season
LOWELLVILLE -- Heather Bucker singled home Melanie Sparks with the winning run in the top of the seventh inning as Mineral Ridge edged Lowellville 4-3 in an Inter-County League game.
Buckner had two hits for the Rams (12-11, 6-5), as did Sparks, while Heather Reinhart added three singles.
Kaili Gehring (9-5) struck out 12 batters and pitched a four-hitter.
North Canton Hoover 4, Fitch 0
AUSTINTOWN -- Andrea Lucente and Staci Balkan had singles as Fitch (11-7, 6-5) managed just two hits against Hoover in a Federal League game.
Struthers 7, Salem 0
SALEM -- Niki McGuire hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to lead Struthers in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
McGuire had two hits and scored twice for the Wildcats (9-12, 3-8) and Amanda Ruozzo had two hits.
Jess Mathews had two hits for Salem.
Canfield 8, Alliance 1
CANFIELD -- Stephanie Zunic, Bryanne Halfhill and Courtney Porter each had a double and a single for Canfield (18-4).
Andrea Sapp and Megan Geiger doubled for Alliance (7-13).
Lakeview 10, Liberty 0
LIBERTY -- Kailynn Cerny allowed just four hits as Lakeview blanked Liberty in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Jen Baker, Amy Downs and Kelly Moore all had two hits for the Bulldogs (14-5, 8-5).
Michelle Antonelli and Brittney Bucco each drove in two runs for the winners.
