Jail inmate is sentenced for drug, firearm felonies

MERCER, Pa. -- A county jail inmate was sentenced to three to six years in prison and fined $15,000 in Mercer County Common Pleas Court for firearms and drug convictions.
Judge John Reed sentenced Derrick Clanton, 21, address given as Mercer County Jail, to the term for possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver, a felony.
He also sentenced him to an additional three to six months for a felony firearms charge for having a loaded .40-caliber stolen handgun with the serial number scratched off. He was also placed on two years' probation to follow the prison term and two concurrent years' probation for resisting arrest.
According to court documents, Clanton was apprehended Feb. 2, 2004, for speeding on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township and had a loaded handgun, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.
He fled from authorities and climbed a tree to avoid capture. During his arrest he also struck a trooper in the face, injuring him.

The following also were sentenced recently:
UOlive Dora, 32, of North Broad Street, Grove City, was placed on 12 months' probation for tampering with public records/information, a misdemeanor. On May 5, 2004, she presented a forged custody court order to a woman to prevent the woman from taking custody of her child.
UJoseph Kerr, 43, of Reddick Lane, Slippery Rock, was sentenced to six to 12 months in the Mercer County Jail followed by 12 months' probation for misdemeanor indecent assault. On Feb. 20, 2004, he made inappropriate sexual comments to a woman at restaurant on state Route 258, Springfield Township. He pulled her against him, touched and fondled her, kissed her and made lewd comments.
UJames Kitchen, 39, of Creek Road, Jackson Center, was sentenced to six to 12 months in jail followed by four years' probation for two counts of corruption of minors, two counts of stalking and three counts of indecent exposure, all misdemeanors. Between June 1 and Sept. 12, 2004, he exposed himself and touched his genitals in the presence of a 12-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl at a Worth Township Residence at least 10 times. He also exposed himself to an adult woman.
UDennison Wheeler II, 34, address given as Mercer County Jail, was sentenced to eight to 16 months in prison and four years' probation and ordered to pay restitution for identity theft and access device fraud, both felonies. In June 2002, he used a man's name and Social Security card to obtain several calling cards and made about $1,600 worth of phone calls.
UBrian Baxter, 35, of Ormond Avenue, Sharon, was sentenced to six to 12 months in jail and 36 months' probation and ordered to pay restitution for theft, a misdemeanor. On Feb. 21, 2002, he took door locks and trim plates parts from a Chestnut Street, Wheatland address.
