SOFTBALL Lakeview earns matchup with Poland



The Bulldogs beat Conneaut to win a sectional title.
JEFFERSON -- Jen Baker had four hits and scored three runs to lead the Lakeview High softball team to a 10-2 victory over Conneaut in a Division II sectional softball final Monday at JAGS Fields.
Michelle Antonelli had three hits and scored twice. Brittney Bucco had two hits and three RBIs for the Bulldogs (13-5), who will play Poland in Monday's district semifinal.
Kate Barnett added two hits in the win.
Kate Carducci had two hits for Conneaut (14-5).
Regular season
LIBERTY -- Sophomore Brittany Skeels pitched a perfect game with 11 strikeouts as the Golden Flashes defeated Liberty 9-0 to clinch a tie for the Trumbull Athletic Conference crown.
Jaclyn Carpenter hit a pace of singles for the Golden Flashes (22-1, 15-0). She drove in a run and scored twice.
Liberty lost for the 13th time in 16 outings.
Ursuline 10, Mathews 0
VIENNA -- Jenna Klempay had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs to lead Ursuline (15-7).
Mary Hendricks and Ashley Siembieda had two hits apiece for the Irish, and Maureen Cearfoss (15-6) pitched a complete game, scattering three hits.
Mooney 5, Chaney 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mimi Vitello had three hits and scored twice for the Cardinals (15-6, 5-1 Steel Valley Conference).
Dana Palazzo's sixth-inning triple ignited a three-run rally.
Chaney is 5-10, 1-5.
Canfield 8, Alliance 0
ALLIANCE -- Winning pitcher Tricia Bettura (8-1) tossed a one-hitter and had three hits for the Cardinals.
Bettura (8-1) tripled while Jena Ervin singled twice and doubled.
Courtney Porter and Bryanne Halfhill doubled for Canfield (17-4) and Kerrie Haurin singled twice.
Rebecca Pittenger had the only hit for Alliance.
Springfield 8, South Range 5
BEAVER TOWNSHIP -- Samantha Cavalier and Ashley Fagnano doubled for the Tigers (16-4, 11-1 Inter-County League).
Colleen Platt relieved Krista Snyder in the fifth inning to pick up the win.
For South Range (5-12, 3-6), Kelcie Witmer had three doubles while Lynn O'Connell and Heather Stacy doubled and drove in two runs apiece.
Lowellville 9, McDonald 8
MCDONALD -- The Rockets (12-7, 4-6 ICL) scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, then held off a late rally by the Blue Devils.
Winning pitcher Lindsay Wilson hit a double, two singles, scored twice and stole three bases.
Jacque Schrader hit a triple, single, drove in two runs and scored once.
Courtney Vitullo hit two doubles, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Blue Devils (8-10, 3-8).
Michelle Krumpak and Jessica Ferarro each hit a double and single, drove in two runs and scored once.
Western Reserve 3, Lisbon 0
LISBON -- Katie Harmon (8-4) and Stevie Banks combined to scattered three hits, with Harmon striking out six to pick up the win.
Banks struck out two batters.
McKenzie Mower led off the sixth inning and scored for the Blue Devils.
Emily Smith led Lisbon with a double.
