Homicide victims ID'd
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man found shot to death at his East Side home around 5:15 a.m. Sunday has been identified as Anthony Gilbert, 41, said Lt. Robin Lees. Firefighters sent to 692 Jacobs Road to extinguish a fire found Gilbert under a vehicle in the attached garage. A dog was under the car, also shot to death, police said. Lees said a man found shot to death 12:12 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on the North Side has been identified as Anthony McBride Jr., 39, who was likely homeless. Lees said McBride was a suspect in several robberies near the WRTA bus terminal. He said detectives have a few leads in the homicides.
Sister has brother jailed
WARREN -- A city man spent the weekend in jail after his sister told police he shot at her several times at a home in the 1600 block of Roman Street S.E., police said. Seven spent 9mm pistol casings were found.
The woman reported the domestic felonious assault at 1:14 a.m. Saturday. She said her brother came to the residence and threatened to kill her, then fired several shots at her.
Social Security forum
GIRARD -- A Social Security Roundtable forum featuring political and union leaders and activists will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Girard Multigenerational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave.
The event is being coordinated by Capri Cafaro, state advocate representative for the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
Speakers and organizations invited to participate include Mahoning Valley Coalition to Preserve Social Security, UAW retirees, AFL-CIO retirees, Rock the Vote, veterans organizations and disability advocate groups, AARP, Youngstown-Warren Area Agency on Aging and the Youngstown State University Gerontology-related faculty.
Hermitage to get grant
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Kelly Burch, regional director for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, will present a Growing Greener grant to Hermitage on Wednesday to restore Baker Run and reduce flooding.
The stream improvement project will be discussed at two public meetings soon in Hermitage.
Development meeting

YOUNGSTOWN -- Northeast Homeowners and Concerned Citizens Association will meet at 7 tonight at Price Memorial A.M.E. Church, 920 Dryden Ave. An official from the Center for Community Empowerment at Rockford Activity Center will speak.
Service to honor police
YOUNGSTOWN -- A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 343 Via Mount Carmel, to honor police officers who lost their lives protecting others. The service, to commemorate Police Memorial Week, will be hosted by Fraternal Order of Police lodges from Youngstown, Youngstown State University and Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. The service begins with a short procession from downtown to the church.
Police probe vandalism
BOARDMAN -- Police are investigating five incidents of vandalism to vehicles done between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The incidents were reported on Brookfield, Glenwood and Claybourne avenues, Teakwood Drive and West Boulevard.
