Gas can blamed in fire
GIRARD -- A gasoline can placed too close to a hot water heater is believed to be the cause of a fire at a Patricia Drive duplex Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters estimated the damage at between $70,000 and $80,000, not including the contents of the home.
A gas can for a scooter parked in the utility room of one of the units was ignited by the pilot light of the home's hot water heater, firefighters said.
No injuries were reported. One of the families that lived in the home was referred to the American Red Cross to find housing. The other tenant had not returned home by the time firefighters cleared the scene.
