PREP ROUNDUP Struthers defeats Chaney
The Wildcats rally from behind to win by one run; improve to 7-15.
STRUTHERS -- Jim Kriebel tripled home Joel Lariccia, who had reached base on an error, with the winning run as Struthers High (7-15) defeated Chaney 6-5 Saturday in a non-league game.
Chaney took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Struthers rallied to score a run in the fifth and then it scored again in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score.
Lariccia and Rob Mistovich each hit a double for the Wildcats, while Dave Matthews hit a triple.
Canfield 7-2, Jefferson 4-0
STRUTHERS -- In the first game of the doubleheader at Cene Park, the Cardinals scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning and Jefferson couldn't recover.
Drew Turocy hit a triple and single, while Brett Grabman hit a pair of singles and drove in a run for the Cardinals.
Turocy, in the second game, pitched a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to pick up the win.
Josh McKenny and Josh McKenny each went 2-for-3. Rosko scored once and Ryan Vanna hit a run-scoring triple.
Springfield 6, Western Reserve 1
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Tigers (17-7, 8-3 ICL) Jeremy Savaet scattered six hits, with six strikeouts in pitching a complete game for the win.
Melio Rios led the Tigers' 13-hit attack with two singles. He drove in a run and scored twice.
Aaron Wood added a double and single, drove in two run and scored twice.
Ryan Pauken hit two doubles and a single and drove in the Blue Devils' run.
Yo. Christian 9, Ledgemont 7
YOUNGSTOWN -- Patrick Bader's three hits included two doubles and drove in three runs for Youngstown Christian in an East Suburban Conference game.
Jared VanArsdale had three hits and three RBIs for the Eagles (6-6, 3-3).
Leetonia 11, Crestview 3
COLUMBIANA -- Cody Tittle hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead Leetonia in a Tri-County League game.
Craig Schmidt doubled for Crestview (11-10, 6-5).
Lisbon 16, Crestview 1
COLUMBIANA -- Aaron Cosma and Lucas Rambo each had two hits and three RBIs for Lisbon (12-9, 10-4).
Softball
STRUTHERS -- The Struthers High softball team tuned up for Tuesday's Division II tournament game at Hubbard with a doubleheader sweep of Campbell.
In the 16-5 victory, winning pitcher Michelle Zanni's three hits included a home run and double. She also drove in three runs.
Halle Minchin-Skook tripled and doubled to drive in two runs.
Niki McGuire and Steph Sahli doubled while Amanda Ruozzo and Michelle High had two hits each.
For the Red Devils, Delilah Benedis tripled and Lorrin Pico drove in two runs.
In the Wildcats' 8-1 victory, winning pitcher Michelle High scattered four hits. Dayna Yash drove in three runs with two hits. Minchin-Skook had two hits and two RBIs.
For the Red Devils, Victoria Steiner and Deanna Black doubled while Benedis had two hits.
Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 1, Fitch 0
AKRON -- Kara Warren, Andrea Lucente and Sam Kozbial each had a hit for Fitch in Saturday's Ohio Invitational.
Jen Purnell pitched a three-hitter in the loss.

AKRON -- Nicole Smaldino had three hits, including a double and an RBI for the Falcons, who lost in eight innings. Warren had two hits and three RBIs and Purnell had two hits.

AKRON -- Jess Reigrut had three singles and three stolen bases for Fitch (11-6), while Warren earned her first win of the season.
Warren also had three hits, Staci Balkan had two hits and two RBIs, and Purnell had two doubles, two singles and three RBIs.
