PREP BASEBALL Oles helps Fitch topple Lake, 7-3



Ursuline defeated former SVC rival Boardman, 5-3.
UNIONTOWN -- Alex Oles scattered seven hits and struck out 10 in leading the Fitch High baseball team to a 7-3 victory over Lake Friday in a Federal League game.
The Falcons (8-2) share first place in the league standings with Canton GlenOak.
Leading 1-0, Fitch (14-5) scored two runs in the third inning as Dom Modarelli singled and moved to second on a sacrifice. Mike Brown walked. John Mang singled home Modarelli. Dave Diyorio doubled, but Brown was thrown out at the plate. With runners on second and third, Mang scored on a passed ball.
John Rutan singled twice for Lake (7-11, 4-6).
The Falcons will play host to Geneva in a Division I sectional championship game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Ursuline 5, Boardman 3
STRUTHERS -- Andy Kopper had three hits and Ed Rohan added two for Ursuline (14-5) at Cene Park. Armand DePaul (3-3) went the distance for the Irish, striking out five.
Chris Tremblay had two hits for the Spartans (9-8).
Struthers 6, Campbell 4, 8 innings
CAMPBELL -- Mike Galetta and Jim Farris hit run-scoring doubles in the eighth inning to lead Struthers at Roosevelt Park.
Galetta and Joel Larricia had three hits each for the Wildcats (6-15). Galetta and Rob Mistovich had two doubles apiece, while Larricia, Jim Kriebel and Adam Wilaj all had one.
Chris Kadvan went seven innings for his third win and Dave Matthews pitched the eighth for his first save.
Frasier Tirikos and Justin Vrona hit doubles for Campbell.
Alliance 11, Wilson 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Alliance (16-8) scored four runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth.
John Schieder scattered three hits as he pitched a complete game to pick up the win. Andrew Henderson hit a pair of doubles and scored three times for the Aviators.
Springfield 8, Chaney 2
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Dane Dobson and Mike Kampfer each had three hits for Springfield (16-7), while Joey D'Amato and Zach DeJane each added two.
Andrew Sarich got his first win of the season and Dobson pitched two shutout innings of relief, striking out four.
Lou Kopachy had two hits for the Cowboys (3-17).
Crestview 6, East Palestine 5
EAST FAIRFIELD -- The Rebels' (11-7, 6-3) David Myers doubled home Jordan Reynolds with the winning run in the 10th inning of the Tri-County League game.
Greg Brown went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for Crestview.
Dan Hanolt went 4-for-5 and scored once for the Bulldogs.
Alliance 10, Wilson 2
ALLIANCE -- Bryant and Radad Hamayale each hit a pair of singles for the Redmen (2-15) in a game Wednesday.
Hendershot hit a double and two singles and scored three times, while teammate Alex Walker hit three singles and scored three times.
