ON CAMPUS Hulea is Villanova captain



Howland's Chuck Scarbrough and Sam Mann have excelled this spring.
Brian Hulea, a Canfield native, has been selected as a tri-captain this season for the Villanova University football team.
A senior linebacker, Hulea needs 104 tackles to become just the third player in school history to register 400 for his career.
"Brian represents the best of Villanova football," coach Andy Talley said. "He brings outstanding leadership to the squad and is committed to keeping our program at the highest level."
Last year, Hulea made a team-high 85 tackles, including eight for loss, two sacks and an interception.
He was named third team All-Atlantic 10 as a sophomore in 2004 before being named first team in 2003 and 2004.
Baldwin-Wallace
Chuck Scarbrough (Howland) shot 151 to place ninth as he helped the Yellow Jackets to a second-place finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference golf tournament at the Rivergreens course in West Lafayette.
The Yellow Jackets fired a season-low 295 strokes on the final day. It was the second straight year that B-W finished second.
Scarbrough averaged 80.5 strokes per round in six events.
Washington & amp; Jefferson
Sam Mann was named the East Coast Athletic Conference Division II Southern co-pitcher of the week.
A Howland graduate, Mann was also selected as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
He pitched two complete shutouts and lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.76. He tossed a five-hitter with five strikeouts in a 7-0 win over Westminster, then threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to beat Thiel 8-0.
He's appeared in nine games, allowing 47 hits in 51 innings, with 43 strikeouts. He also plays first base for the Presidents and is batting .283 average and leads the team with four home runs.
W & amp;J is 25-10 this season.
Ohio Wesleyan
Michael Krieger (Boardman) pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts, leading the Bishops to an 11-2 victory over Earlham in the first game of a doubleheader.
He's appeared in 13 games, starting nine, for the Bishops (23-12, 9-5 North Coast Athletic Conference). In 61 innings, Krieger's pitched 61 innings, allowed 62 hits and struck out 59. He has a 4.72 ERA and leads the team with a 6-1 record.
Westminster
Second baseman Kevin Gesacion of Boardman has stolen 19 bases in 24 attempts this season to lead the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
The Boardman native is batting .379 (36-for-95) in 28 games, with seven doubles, a triple, one home run and 20 RBIs for the Titans (17-13, 8-7).
Sophomore pitcher-designated hitter Jennifer Pancake (Boardman) was a first-team selection on the 2005 All-PAC softball team.
She pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts as the Titans defeated Washington & amp; Jefferson 9-2 in the conference tournament championship game.
Pancake (17-3) went 2-for-4 with her team-best third home run. She scored twice and drove in three runs.
First baseman Heidi Kimmel (Poland) was also a first-team all-conference selection. She went 3-for-5 with at triple, two runs scored and two RBIs in the win over W & amp;J.
Felicie Reid of North Lima was presented with the women's cross county MVP award.
Bethany
Junior outfielder Emily Patton (Poland) was named to the first team on the All-PAC softball team.
Mercyhurst
Sophomore pitcher Jen Feret (Boardman) was named the school's female athlete of the week for the second time. She won four of Mercyhurst's last five games, allowing only seven hits and one earned run. She has 13 wins this season, the most of any Mercyhurst pitcher since the school joined the NCAA in 1981.
She pitched three shutouts to raise her season total to eight and she's won her last five decisions, all complete games.
Feret is hitting .280 (23-for-92) with five doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs.
Gannon
Sophomore catcher Sean Lysowski (Boardman) has appeared in 16 baseball games for the Golden Knights (6-33). He's batting .222 (8-for-36) with two doubles.
Freshman shortstop Jaclyn Corroto and junior first baseman Joanna Fergus, both of Boardman, are members of the softball team, which is 29-14.
Corroto is hitting .267 (32-for-120) with eight doubles and 12 RBIs. Fergus has a .349 average (44-for-126) and she's hit 11 doubles and drove in 38 runs.
