GROVE CITY Kentucky governor to address graduates
The leader of the nation's largest nonprofit retirement community corporation will speak at baccalaureate.
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher will address 551 Grove City College seniors during the 2005 outdoor commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. May 14.
The ceremony will be on the Quad between Harbison Chapel and Crawford Hall. In case of bad weather, commencement will be held in the Physical Learning Center Arena.
Fletcher won the office in November 2003 and was the state's first Republican governor in 32 years. He is only the eighth Republican governor in Kentucky history. He has a background in mechanical engineering and served as an Air Force pilot during the Cold War.
Fletcher was born in Mount Sterling, Ky., and is a longtime resident of Lexington. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky College of Engineering in 1974 and later graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Before his election to Congress, Fletcher was a family practice physician for 12 years.
His legislative career began in 1995 as a state representative for Kentucky's 78th District. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998 from Kentucky's 6th Congressional District.
Fletcher and his wife, Glenna, have two children: Ben, a Grove City graduate from the class of 1997; and Rachael, a 1995 alumna. Rachael's husband, Daniel, also graduated from Grove City in 1995.

Additionally, the Rev. George R. Gunn Jr. will address graduates during baccalaureate at 7 p.m. May 13, outdoors on the Quad, or in case of bad weather, in the Physical Learning Center Arena.
The Rev. Mr. Gunn, a Grove City College trustee, joined the board in 2001 and has led the nation's largest nonprofit retirement community corporation -- ACTS Retirement Life Communities. He earned a degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. A resident of Gwynedd Valley, Pa., Mr. Gunn and his wife, Ruth, have two children: George Jr., an alumnus from the class of 1993, and Kimberly, who graduated from Grove City in 1995. George Jr.'s wife, the former Amy Smith, is also graduate from the class of 1993.
