Children's Olympics set for June 4 at JFK
WARREN -- The YWCA of Warren's 22nd annual Children's Olympics will be June 4 at John F. Kennedy High School, 2550 Central Parkway S.E.
The event is open to all Trumbull county children in grades 1-6.
Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by a parade at 9 a.m. The track and field events begin at 9:30 a.m.
Registration is $7 per child. Forms are available through Trumbull County schools or at the YWCA of Warren, 375 N. Park Ave. Deadline to register is noon, May 21. Children registered by May 10 will receive a free Olympic T-shirt.
Olympic events include standing broad jump, softball throw, and the 25-, 50- and 100-yard dashes. The athletes compete with students of their own gender and grade level.
Each participant will receive a ribbon at sign in. Olympic-style gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to the top three boys and girls at the end of each event. At the end of the day, trophies will be given to the over-all winners, boys and girls, in each grade, and one child will be selected to receive the Spirit of the Children's Olympics Award in Memory of Korey Stringer.
