PREP BASEBALL Canfield clinches MAC tie, rolls 13-7



The Cardinals are unbeaten (9-0) in the conference; Salem clipped Niles.
HOWLAND -- The Canfield High baseball team clinched a tie for the Metro Athletic Conference championship Thursday with a 13-7 victory over Howland.
The Cardinals (16-6) are undefeated through nine games in the conference with three contests remaining.
Zack Guerrieri had three hits while Matt Guerrieri, Kyle Banna and Drew Turocy all added a pair.
Tyler Pearce (2-1) picked up the win with relief help from Brad Blevins.
Jared Bartholomew led Howland (10-5, 6-5 MAC) with three hits including a home run and driving in four runs.
Bartholomew (2-2) took the loss for the Tigers.
Salem 8, Niles 6
NILES -- The Quakers (13-8, 3-7 MAC) broke a 6-6 tie as they scored two runs in the top of the nine inning to prevail.
Keith Viola came on in relief in the eighth inning and pitched two shutout innings to pick up the win.
Craig Hritz went 4-for-4 with a triple and double. He scored twice and drove in two runs to spark Salem. Cody Dillon chipped in with two hits and he drove in three runs.
Fitch 11, Poland 4
POLAND -- Joe Coch had three hits and drove in two runs to help lead Fitch.
Dom Modarelli, John Mang and Matt Brogley all had two hits for the Falcons (13-5).
Struthers 4, Harding 2
STRUTHERS -- Dave Matthews and Mike Barone each collected three hits to lead Struthers.
Jim Farris and Jim Kribbel each had a double for the Wildcats (5-14).
Steve Streb (2-0) picked up the mound win.
Youngstown Christian 11, Rayen 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman Nathaniel Setnick came on in relief in the second inning and went on to post his first career victory.
Jared VanArsdale hit a double and single and drove in two runs for the Eagles (5-6).
Jackson-Milton 10,Mineral Ridge 9
NORTH JACKSON -- Nick Serb's three hits included a double for the Bluejays (9-10, 5-6 Inter-County League).
Adam Keck had two doubles and Matt Nagy had two hits for the winners.
Brad Ward and Josh Garland led the Rams' offense with three hits each.
Western Reserve 11, Lowellville 1
BERLIN CENTER -- Brandon Moherman scattered four hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win for the Blue Devils (12-5, 6-4 ICL).
Ryan Lude hit a grand slam in the second inning for Western Reserve. He also doubled.
Justin Rodriguez hit a pair of singles for the Rockets.
Hubbard 8, Girard 4
HUBBARD -- Hubbard (11-4, 7-3 Trumbull Athletic Conference) took the lead for keeps by scoring four runs in the fourth inning.
Winning pitcher Tom Jones (2-2) hit a two-run double in the sixth inning.
A.J. Pulice and Frank Rosile each hit a double and single for the Eagles.
Girard slipped to 8-11.
West Branch 10, Minerva 6
MINERVA -- The Warriors (12-7, 6-6 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) scored two runs in the first inning, five in the third and three more in the sixth to prevail.
Josh Winans hit two doubles, single and drove in three runs to pace West Branch. Andy Todor went 2-for-4 with a double and single and drove in three runs.
Brock Bowman led the Lions (8-10, 4-6) with a double and three singles.
Southeast 8, Windham 6
WINDHAM -- Trailing 5-2, the Pirates (2-17) scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Blue Bombers fell to 8-6.
Joe Knapick hit a double and two singles and drove in four runs to pace the Pirates. Cody Fincham led Windham with a triple and single.
