Sen. Dann's resolution
COLUMBUS -- State Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd, has introduced a resolution to change the composition of the state Apportionment Board.
Under the proposal, the Apportionment Board would have five members. There will be four nonelected citizens appointed by the speaker of the house, Ohio Senate president, the leader of the Ohio Senate Minority Caucus and the leader of the Ohio House Minority Caucus. The four members would elect the fifth board member.
Under current law, the board has five members: the governor, secretary of state, state auditor, a member selected by the House speaker and Senate leader and a member selected by the House and Senate leader of the other party.
Dann proposes that the duties of the board would expand to include drawing congressional districts. The plan would then be adopted by the General Assembly, as required under current law. The board now just draws legislative districts of the Ohio General Assembly.
